DTNA Newspaper

I moved to the Duboce Triangle neighborhood in San Francisco in July 2023 and since then, have fallen in love with the neighborhood - its beautiful architecture, central park with so many dogs, and cute neighborhood establishments and coffee shops. Hoping to take a larger role in the community, I joined the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association and volunteered to write a column in their bimonthly newspaper and run their instagram channel to help communicate events and neighborhood happenings to the large community and serve as a platform for stakeholders to stay engaged. To get started with the newspaper, I first wrote an introductory article on why I decide to move to the neighborhood in the December 2023/January 2024 issue. After introducing myself to the readers, I wanted to start showcasing the voices of the community around me. For my next article, I interview a local elite marathon runner, Katie, who lived in my neighborhood - featuring her interview for an article celebrating women’s history month through an uplifting narrative about women and girls in sports. As I continue writing, I hope to both showcase unique stories of neighbors like Katie while also using this medium to communicate key initiatives within the neighborhood (like writing about the growing instagram platform to point readers towards this alternate source of communication).

Key Goals of this Newspaper:

  • Providing a medium through which to communicate neighborhood events and initiatives to stakeholders and community members.

  • Showcasing “neighborhood gems” and local heroes - adding a “voice” to the neighbors in the community
